Sword Art Online is About to Get Real with VR Project

Sword Art Online fans might finally be able to live their fantasy of entering the virtual MMO’s world thanks to IBM Japan’s recently-revealed Sword Art Online: The Beginning. While the virtual reality project likely won’t have a harsh death penalty for failing, it plans to bring Sword Art Online to life in a whole new way.

Sword Art Online: The Beginning will use the Cognitive System and IBM’s high-performance SoftLayer cloud system to reproduce the world of Reki Kawahara’s light novels. Players will immerse themselves in it by moving their body rather than using a controller, and IBM is currently taking applications for a prototype alpha test.
