Fujiko Fujio’s Doraemon may be a beloved classic in Japan, but it hasn’t really had a chance to catch on in America. Hopefully that will change soon, because The Nikkei reports that the Disney XD channel is set to air the anime adaptation of Doraemon, with 26 English-dubbed episodes planned for this summer.
The anime has been broadcast in 35 countries/regions over the years, mainly in Southeast Asia. TV Asahi reached an agreement with Walt Disney to broadcast the show five times a week, marking the first time for the long-running series to be aired on a nationwide network in the United States.
There will be some changes in the English version, naturally, including character and item names. For instance, protagonist Nobita will be Noby, Gian (Takeshi Goda) will be Big G, the Takecopter will be called Flapper, and Doraemon’s Dokodemo Door will be changed to Anywhere Door.
