It’s time to add another milestone to the list, as the first Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle anime film has officially made its way into Japan’s top 10 highest-grossing films of all time list. The new feature based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge managed to pull this feat off in just 17 days.
This latest bump—which sees Infinity Castle hitting 17.63 billion yen (about US$119.26 million)—easily makes it the highest-grossing film of 2025 in Japan. It managed to surpass the previous champion, Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback, which pulled in 14.4 billion yen.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is now in 10th place in the all-time top 10, which pushes 2003’s Bayside Shakedown out of the top 10 for the first time in 22 years. It’s also now the seventh highest-grossing anime film of all time. The next anime it needs to beat is Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle at 19.6 billion yen.
Prior to this, Infinity Castle became the fastest film to hit 10 billion yen in Japanese history.
The Demon Slayer anime continues to be directed by Haruo Sotozaki, with Akira Matsushima as character designer and chief animation director and Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiina on music.
Once the three movies are out, that will finish the Demon Slayer anime, which has been a massive success. Crunchyroll gave this description for the movie:
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Plot
Tanjiro Kamado – a boy who joined an organization dedicated to hunting down demons called the Demon Slayer Corps after his younger sister Nezuko was turned into a demon.
While growing stronger and deepening his friendships and bonds with fellow corps members, Tanjiro has battled many demons with his comrades – Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Along the way, his journey has led him to fight alongside the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen, the Hashira, including Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku aboard the Mugen Train, Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui within the Entertainment District, as well as Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji at the Swordsmith Village.
As the Demon Slayer Corps members and Hashira engaged in a group strength training program, the Hashira Training, in preparation for the forthcoming battle against the demons, Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the Ubuyashiki Mansion. With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.
The destination of where Tanjiro and Demon Slayer Corps have fallen is the demons’ stronghold – the Infinity Castle. And so, the battleground is set as the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons ignites.
