Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari’s hit manga Oshi no Ko just concluded last year, and the next season of the anime is due out in 2026. The whole series has been a hit, but Akasaka is not taking any time off. Last year it was announced that he’s working on another project, and now we have some more information on it.
Akasaka is teaming up with Aoi Kujira of Geek Circle Crisis and Ajichika, the artist for the Record of Ragnarok manga. Together they’re coming out with Märchen Clown (translated as Fairy Tale Clown, though it could technically be Märchen Crown because of how the katakana works).
Its first chapter will show up in the pages of Weekly Young Jump in this year’s 16th issue, which comes out on March 16. Kujira is in charge of the series’ story, while Akasaka is taking care of the writing itself, and Ajichika is handling the art.
There’s a very brief description of the plot, saying this manga follows a prince and princess in a fairy tale, and that fate is guiding them.
Yen Press publishes the Oshi no Ko manga, and gave this description for the plot:
Oshi no Ko Plot
Gorou is an ob-gyn with a life far removed from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry—the world of his favorite idol, rising star Ai Hoshino. But when the two are unexpectedly brought together, their fates become intertwined in ways that defy all reason. For the good doctor, it’s time to stan(d) and deliver!
You can check out Otaku USA’s review of the first two Oshi no Ko volumes here. Speaking on what influenced Oshi no Ko, Akasaka said, “With the spread of the internet, we live in a society where fans’ voices are heard directly. I want people to know how young talents are being hurt, exploited, and suffering.”
