Having things like shows, video games or books leak online is a growing problem, and it just happened to the whole Assassin’s Creed Shadows official art book. It’s partly in the news for being leaked, and partly in the news for where it was leaked: a hentai site.
No, the art book is not hentai (though Japanese censors don’t like the level of violence in the game). Some people on Reddit noted that the book had appeared on this site, catching the attention of a writer at PC Gamer. The writer wouldn’t say which hentai site it showed up on, but confirmed that he saw it for himself. After that, someone — probably developer Ubisoft — had it removed. Still, individual images are floating in the wilds of the internet.
PC Gamer remarked about the leaked book, “I have to tip my hat to all the research and enthusiasm that’s so evident in the lovingly rendered images of terrible things happening in feudal Japan.” The writer acknowledged that since Ubisoft hasn’t commented, it’s technically possible it’s a really good faked book — but that seems unlikely. Also, if it were fake, there wouldn’t have been the same need to take it off the website.
It’s unclear who leaked it, but companies are increasingly going after leakers through legal means. And you can check out this article on Takamitsu Sueyoshi, a rights agent and producer at Shueisha, explaining the repercussions of leaking materials.
Ubisoft gave this description for the video game Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is coming out next month:
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Summary
Live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend. Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this remarkable duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.
