In January 2024, Attack on Titan became the first anime to win an Astra Award after it nabbed Best Streaming Animated Series or TV Movie. Since then, the Astra Awards decided to have a category specifically for anime, and Solo Leveling is the winner of the first-ever Best Anime Series award at the Astra TV Awards. Aleks Le, who plays Sung Jinwoo in the English dub, was on-hand to accept the award.

The series’ Japanese director and one of its producers also shared a short video to say thank-you for the honor. This includes thanking fans around the world. Furuhashi, the producer, notes that this is the first time that Aniplex and A-1 have created an anime from a Korean webtoon, and he also says how thrilled they all are to win this award.

Solo Leveling competed against Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Ninja Kamui, Pluto, Blue Eye Samurai and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

The first season of Solo Leveling launched at the beginning of the year, and the second season (which is titled Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, ) is due out in January 2025. The compilation movie Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- opened in select North American theaters on December 6.

The franchise started out as a light novel series by Chugong, and also has a comic adaptation (webtoon). Both of these are published in America in print by Yen Press. Yen Press gave this description for the first novel:

Solo Leveling Plot

E-rank hunter Jinwoo Sung has no money, no talent, and no prospects to speak of-and apparently, no luck, either! When he enters a hidden double dungeon one fateful day, he’s abandoned by his party and left to die at the hands of some of the most horrific monsters he’s ever encountered. But just before the last, fatal blow… PING! [Congratulations on becoming a Player.]
