Kinnikuman Creator Talks Quitting Manga Because of Low Anime Ranking

kinnikuman perfect origin arc

Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc, the latest part of the decades-long Kinnikuman franchise, is not doing as well as creator Takashi Shimada would like. Shimada is half of the manga duo known as Yudetamago, and he shared his thoughts online.

A new MyAnimeList ranking put Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc in 47th place. Shimada responded by saying, “I don’t really get it, maybe I should quit being a manga creator.”

Later he wrote, “Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc got good ratings on terrestrial TV. It also has a good reputation on Netflix. I would like to know why it is ranked 47th? Are there other manga that are selling well, or is there a museum?”

His threat to retire might worry fans, but he later made it clear that he’s not throwing in the towel on his work. He wrote, “Yudetamago is pure, so when it’s time to retire, I’ll retire. Yōichi Takahashi has retired, and Toriyama-san has passed away. But I’m proud I’m delivering the highest quality entertainment.”

Netflix gave this description for Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc:
