If you’re a manga fan who lives in New York City, or if it’s a place you’re able to visit, then you might want to check out the major (and limited time) pop-up Kodansha House: Where Manga Meets. It begins on October 4 and lasts through the rest of the month, with people able to attend on Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 9 PM.
Meet the Manga Creators
Some major manga creators will be joining the event. Shuzo Oshimi of Flowers of Evil, Happiness, and Blood on the Tracks will do a Q&A session on October 4 at 7, followed by a signing at 8, then another signing on October 5 at 2.
Tsubasa Yamaguchi of Blue Period is doing a Q&A on October 11 at 7, followed by a signing at 8, then another signing on October 13 at 2.
Makoto Yukimura of Vinland Saga is doing a Q&A on October 18 at 7, followed by a signing at 8, then another signing on October 19 at 2.
Last but not least, Kamome Shirahama of Witch Hat Atelier is doing a Q&A on October 20 at 5, followed by a signing at 6.
What Else is Going On at Kodansha House?
There will also be Manga Movie Nights, Manga Book Club, Trivia Club, Manga Marketplace, and more.
People can take their pictures at photo booths themed around Akira and Attack on Titan. For Akira, you can sit on the iconic bike (it will be stationary) while wearing the iconic outfit. For Attack on Titan, you get to “become” a Titan and eat candy and chocolates shaped like little people. The people will be inside a scaled walled village.
This is unlike anything Kodansha has ever done before. You can find Kodansha House: Where Manga Meets at 45 Grand Street in Soho. For more information, you can go to this website for the official lineup of events, as well as to make reservations. All of the mangaka events have reservations that open on September 10.
