A new, action-packed trailer has dropped for My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: You’re Next. Not only does it announce that the movie’s theme song is titled “Homunculus” and performed by Vaundy, it lets us have a listen.
The movie hits Japanese theaters on August 2. Rather than be based on something from the manga, it contains an all-new story and some new characters. But My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi is still involved in a supervising role, as well as being credited with original character design. The movie’s storyline is set at approximately the same time as what’s going on in the TV anime right now.
There are three My Hero Academia movies prior to this one: 2018’s My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, 2019’s My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, and 2021’s My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission. So far there’s no word on when My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: You’re Next will officially become available to American viewers, and if it might also see a big screen release.
My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: You’re Next is being made at BONES, with Tensai Okamura of Darker than Black helming the project as director. The script was written by Yosuke Kuroda, who has many credits for writing throughout the My Hero Academia franchise.
VIZ Media publishes the original manga by Kohei Horikoshi and gave this description for the first volume:
Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny…
