2nd Niigata Animation Fest Announces Animation CampThe second annual Niigata International Animation Film Festival is on the way. The festival, which takes place from March 15 to 20 in the port city of Niigata, has just announced the “Niigata Animation Camp,” which seeks to give young animators a leg up in their careers.

There will be two sets of participants. The first is students studying animation in Japan (nationality Japanese or otherwise), who will have the chance to take master classes from industry pros, hang out with directors whose films are in the festival, watch the films in the festival, and network.

The other group is young people from East Asia (age 17-29) who want to work in the animation industry, who can apply by sending in a profile and portfolio. Participants will receive a stipend from the festival for travel as well as accommodation and festival passes.

Further details will be available on the NIAFF page.

The festival has also revealed that it received 49 entries from 29 countries for its full-length animation film competition.

The first Niigata International Animation Film Festival took place last year and featured Mamoru Oshii as jury president, a Katsuhiro Otomo retrospective and more.
