There’s a lot going on with the adaptations of the eighth and ninth volumes of the Seishun Buta Yarō light novel series. First up, the movie adaptation Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out will be hitting Japanese theaters on June 23, and ahead of this the first few minutes have been made public.

The next movie, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid, isn’t scheduled to come out until sometime this winter, but a teaser visual has been released.

The movies are being made at CloverWorks, with Sōichi Masui doing double duty as director for both. They also have returning casts: Kaito Ishikawa plays Sakuta Azusagawa, Asami Seto plays Mai Sakurajima, Yurika Kubo plays Kaede Azusagawa, Nao Tōyama plays Tome Koga, Atsumi Tanezaki plays Rio Futaba, Maaya Uchida plays Nodoka Toyohama, and Inori Minase plays Shōko Makinohara.

People who are able to attend in Japanese theaters for the first movie will receive a text story titled “Rascal Does Dream of an Animal Land.”

Yen Press publishes the original Rascal light novels as well as their manga adaptations. They gave this description for the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out light novel:

“WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE HER WISH COME TRUE? After a draining December, Sakuta is quickly nearing the end of his second year of high school. Since Mai is a third-year student, they don’t have much time left together before graduation rolls around. Meanwhile, his sister, Kaede, is slowly but steadily venturing outdoors again. Just as she begins to find her footing, she announces her most ambitious goal yet—attending her brother’s high school! Sakuta knows better than anyone how difficult this will be for Kaede, and he’s ready to support her however he can. He’s just not sure if that’s what’s best for her…or what she really wants…”
