While You Wait for More Made in Abyss, Watch Its Makers’ Other Anime

More Made in Abyss? Soon. But first, some other anime from its creators.

The second season of Made in Abyss is in view! But we still have a little ways to go until we continue our descent into its creepy-cute world. Fortunately, its makers have lots of other great titles to their name.

So if you love the art style, the music, or the direction, you’ll want to take a look at these other series. Maybe you’ll find something new to love in the meantime!

From the Creator: Fairy Musketeers

Fairy Musketeers

Before Akihito Tsukushi created Made in Abyss, he was making art for other people’s projects. In particular, he was designing characters for Konami. In addition to his work on the Elebits game and its sequel, he drafted the cute fairy tale heroines of Fairy Musketeers.

Also known as Otogi-Juushi Akazukin, Fairy Musketeers was a dimension-hopping magical girl OVA and TV anime. In its universe, God divided the world in two, to prevent people from wielding both science and magic. When a witch from the world of magic decides she’s going to rule both worlds, a trio of “fairy musketeers” come to our world to fight. It’s a cute, weird little series — perfect for fans of Tsukushi’s hit manga.

From the Director: Master Keaton

Master Keaton

Masayuki Kojima had an impressive career, even prior to Made in Abyss. You’ve probably heard of some of his bigger titles, though. So we’re pointing you to one deserving of way more attention: Master Keaton, for which he served as series director.

Like Monster (which Kojima also worked on), Master Keaton comes from manga artist Naoki Urasawa. It follows Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, son of a Japanese zoologist and an English noblewoman. He works as a freelance insurance investigator with an office on Baker Street. But he also has a keen interest in archaeology… oh, and he’s former SAS and fought in the Falklands. So it’s a great series for anyone in need of a dose of adventure.

From the Composer: TOWER OF GOD

Tower of God

British-Australian composer Kevin Penkin has been doing pretty well for himself. After making his way into video game music, he began scoring some of today’s most popular series. (That includes, of course, Made in Abyss.) For more from him, you’ll want to look in the opposite direction: way, way up. Because he’s also the composer behind WEBTOON adaptation TOWER OF GOD.

Whether you enjoy his work for its cinematic tone or its video game roots, this is a good one to go for. The TOWER OF GOD soundtrack has both atmospheric tracks  and action- and synth-packed battle anthems.

With the next season of Made in Abyss scheduled for July, that should go some way toward holding you over.

Hate to wait? See how we kept it together when Digimon was off the air.
