The 17th Annual LA Femme International Film Festival will take place October 14-17 in Beverly Hills, and it includes an event titled “Women in Anime” that’s sponsored by TMS Entertainment. The event is free, but even if you don’t live anywhere near Beverly Hills, you can watch it virtually through this site.
Minako Fujiyoshi and Jinko Gotoh will take part in the event. Fujiyoshi is the first woman to work as a producer at TMS Entertainment. The first anime she produced there was MEGALOBOX, and she has also produced its sequel, MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD. As a result of this, the first two episodes of MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD will be shown at the event. She has additionally worked on the Anpanman films, Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Hamtaro, and Sweetness and Lightning.
Meanwhile, Gotoh has produced Finding Nemo, Klaus, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and The Little Prince, and she is the vice president for Women in Animation. She’s in the midst of producing a new animated show for Netflix. Gotoh will host this panel, and Fujiyoshi will talk about MEGALOBOX and also what it’s like being a woman working within the anime business.
The LA Femme Interional Film Festival gave this description of itself and what it does:
“The festival is a premiere film festival celebrating, supporting and advancing content creation by Women Producers, Writers, and Directors from around the world. Our hosted film festival has advanced the careers of over 1,000 artists and we continue to offer educational seminars, programming and networking events in a nurturing indie environment.”
This is the description for MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD:
“Set seven years after the conclusion of the first season, MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD continues the story of ‘Gearless’ Joe, a former megalobox champion whose meteoric rise was told through the hit anime series MEGALOBOX. Now covered in scars and sporting his old gear, Joe reemerges from the shadows as ‘Nomad’ returning to the ring to fight in the underground matches once again.”
