Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s award-winning manga is coming to the small screen when the Blue Period anime makes its debut, and it will be doing so internationally through Netflix. The streaming service announced the acquisition of the license this week, with a premiere outside of Japan scheduled for October 9.
While specific territories have yet to be revealed, Blue Period will have new episodes streaming weekly on Netflix, so they’re not waiting to dump it all as a binge show later.
Here’s a new trailer from Netflix Japan:

Netflix also has streaming plans within Japan, with the first episode lined up for September 25, putting it a few days ahead of its October 1 debut as part of the Super Animeism block on MBS/TBS. There will also be a “before the broadcast” special featuring the Blue Period anime cast on September 24.
Check out the English version of the key visual below.
The Blue Period anime has Kouji Masunari (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic) on board as general director, Katsuya Asano (Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS) as director, Reiko Yoshida (Girls und Panzer) as series composition writer, and Tomoyuki Shitaya (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma) as character designer for the Seven Arcs production.
Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English and describes it:
Yatora is the perfect high school student, with good grades and lots of friends. It’s an effortless performance, and, ultimately…a dull one. But he wanders into the art room one day, and a lone painting captures his eye, awakening him to a kind of beauty he never knew. Compelled and consumed, he dives in headfirst — and he’s about to learn how savage and unforgiving art can be!
