evangelion 3.0

After announcing the limited (5,000 copies) Ultimate Edition of Neon Genesis Evangelion, GKIDS is back to offer more Eva goodies. GKIDS will also be releasing Neon Genesis Evangelion on Collector’s Edition Set, Standard Edition, and digital download-to-own, adding more options to the series’ first Blu-ray release in America. Distribution will be done by Shout! Factory.

Whichever version you get, you’ll be receiving the 26-episode anime series, plus the movies EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)2 and End of Evangelion.

If you get the Collector’s Edition, you’ll also be receiving a 40-page book and “over seven hours of bonus features including animatics, TV commercials, music videos, Japanese cast auditions, trailers, and more.” It comes out on December 8 and is limited edition, though GKIDS did not say in its press release how limited.

The Standard Edition also has extras, but this one has more than five hours of bonus features instead of seven. It will come out on November 9 and will not be limited edition.

If you want to go the digital download to own route, the series and movies will become available on November 2.

GKIDS gave this description of the franchise:

“In 2015, Tokyo-3 is under attack from ‘Angels,’ extraordinary beings that possess various special abilities. Multipurpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon, Evangelion is the only method to counter these Angels, and Shinji Ikari is chosen as its pilot. The battle for the fate of humankind has begun. Exactly what are the Angels? What is destined for the young pilots? And what will become of humanity?

Presented on Blu-ray for the first time in North America, this groundbreaking, action-packed series from creator Hideaki ANNO has been hailed as one of the most important anime series of all time – a remarkable fusion of genres, and a powerful examination of the relationship between man and machine.”
