Crunchyroll has been doing some market research, and made announcements of their findings at the Acceleration Japan industry showcase event. Head of Global Partnerships and Content Strategy Alden Mitchell Budill reported that 27% of people don’t know what anime is, but when you get down specifically to Generation Z, that number drops dramatically. 94% of Generation Z knows what anime is, compared to 6% that doesn’t.
“[Anime] encompasses almost the entirety of the media landscape within a singular artform,” Budill remarked. “People use anime beyond the screen to signpost things about their own personalities. The youngsters know what we’re doing, and they’re into it.”
