We’ve all got a soft spot in our heart for our favorite cute anime girls. And when it comes to our Best Girls, we’re willing to forgive a lot. But let’s face it: there are some girls in anime who could absolutely destroy us, and not in the fun way. I mean as in burn us to a crisp and leave no witnesses. Call in her friends and “take care” of things. Hide the body really well. And yet… here we still are, appreciating them at our own peril.
Here are just a few of those lovely ladies who could beat us in a fight. We’re not ashamed.
Lina Inverse (Slayers)
Lina Inverse tops our list of unforgettably cute anime girls… mostly because if she didn’t, she might have words with us. And by “words,” I mean a fireball.
In spite of her ultraviolence and (literal) mercenary attitude, Lina’s been a well-loved character since she first made her light novel premiere. She’s making a comeback in her anniversary year, and it’s well deserved.
Kotoko Iwanaga (In/Spectre)
As the official agony aunt of the spirit realm, Kotoko Iwanaga from In/Spectre is no slouch. Her powers are primarily mental, but being short and eye and a leg won’t stop her from attacking if she needs to. She also ranks high on our list of cute anime girls in general, with her fantastic fashion sense.
We’re more fearful of the friends and associates she can call on. The supernatural crowd, including her boyfriend (citation needed), are a fearsome bunch. We’ll just appreciate her awesomeness from afar, thanks.
Rem (Re:ZERO)
By the time you see this sweet expression in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World, you’ve already seen the sort of things Rem is capable of. This demonic darling loves with all he heart and fights with all her strength. So it’s all a matter of being on her good side.
It’s not just Rem you need to look out for, though. Ram will just as quickly jump in to defend her twin. This double-team of terrifying but cute anime girls is a fan favorite, but we’ve also never had to fight them.
Rena Ryugu (Higurashi: When They Cry)
Psychological horror series Higurashi: When They Cry is absolutely full of cute anime girls… who will try to kill you. We have to give Rena Ryugu top ranks, though, as she’s the one who literally has a “cute mode.”
As much as she loves things that are “sho kyute,” she hates lies and disbelief in the hometown curse even more. In the clutches of Hinamizawa Syndrome, she can and will make a mess. We’re fine just, you know, not letting her in the house. No matter how cute she is.
Yuna (Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear)
Top-tier gamer Yuna is currently living her best life in a new world. As cute anime girls go, she’s next-level thanks to her super-powered bear kigurumi. But it’s that same super-powered bear kigurumi that makes her a true force to be reckoned with.
Yuna takes down major bosses single-handed, to the point that she has to back off to give other adventurers a chance. It’s unlikely a good person would have a reason to brawl with her… but we’re not taking any chances.
