We’re about a month from the Japanese release of Hirune Hime, also known as Ancien and the Magic Tablet, the new original anime film from director Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex).
In addition to the theatrical film, it was announced today a supplemental, Hulu-exclusive Hirune Hime short film is also in the works.
The short, entitled Ancien to Mahou no Taburetto ~Mou Hitotsu no Hirune Hime~ (something along the lines of Ancien and the Magic Tablet: Another Hirune Hime), is a story of the adventures of Ancien, the girl who appears in the dreams of Hirune Hime’s main character, Kokone.
Ancien will be played by Mitsuki Takahata, who also plays Kokone.
Yosuke Eguchi, who plays Kokone’s father Momotaro in the main film, will also take on a dual role as the character Peach.
The short, like Hirune Hime, is written and directed by Kamiyama and will be released on Hulu (ostensibly the Japanese version only) at the beginning of March. Hirune Hime will begin its theatrical release March 18.
