Noboru Iguchi is certainly hit or miss as a director. His enthusiasm is there in pretty much every way, but his final products tend to be the very definition of a “mixed bag.”
However, if there’s one franchise I’m not worried about him messing up, it’s Tomie. Based on the series of horror manga by the inimitable Junji Ito (Uzumaki, Gyo), Tomie has seen a few film adaptations in the days since her horrifically reanimated inception, the majority of them forgettable.
Iguchi’s Tomie Unlimited will be the eighth, and from the trailer it at least looks to successfully channel the macabre nature of the titular seductive schoolgirl. This time around Tomie is being played by former gravure idol Miu Nakamura, who leads a cast featuring the likes of Moe Arai, Kensuke Owada, Koichi Obori, Maiko Kawakami, and AKB48’s Aika Oota.
Tomie Unlimited is set to screen at Shinjuku Wald 9 beginning on May 14, 2011. Check out the trailer below.
