28 Years Later, Soccer Manga Shoot! Gets TV Anime Sequel

shoot!

It’s been nearly 30 years since the TV anime adaptation of Tsukasa Ooshima’s soccer manga Shoot! first premiered. It’s never too late for more, though, and a new sequel series is officially on the way in the form of Shoot! Goal to the Future, which was revealed along with its first teaser visual.

The original TV anime adaptation of Shoot! aired in Japan from November 7, 1993 to December 25, 1994 for a total of 58 episodes. Toei Animation produced the first anime, and the second is on the way from the folks at EMT Squared sometime in 2022.

The sequel follows an older Atsushi Kamiya, who went on to play for an Italian team after being the captain at Kakegawa High School. Meanwhile, Hideto Tsuji is the new young lead who has lost his drive and is discouraged by the soccer team.

Here’s how the official website describes the anime:

Atsushi Kamiya, a former captain at Kakegawa High School and the world-renowned “courageous captain” for a famous Italian soccer team…

And Hideto Tsuji, a student at Kakegawa High School, who seems uninterested in the now-weakened soccer team…

Their meeting is the start of a new legend…
