YOASOBI has been making some huge splashes with their anime theme songs, and that continues to hold true for “Yusha,” the first opening theme for the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime. The music video for the song by the two-member unit first debuted on their official YouTube channel on September 29, 2023, and since then it has soared past more than 100 million views.
At the time of this writing, “Yusha” is sitting at a cool 104 million views and counting.
Following the single’s release on the same day, the “Yusha” song itself also hit 100 million streams in January 2024, with the English version, “The Brave,” following in November 2023. The latter has 3.4 million views on YouTube:
Other anime hits by YOASOBI include BEASTARS opening theme “Kaibutsu,” Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury opening theme “Shukufuku” and, of course, the record-breaking Oshi no Ko opening theme “Idol.”
The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime was produced at Madhouse, with Keiichirō Saitō of Bocchi the Rock! helming the project as director. The person in charge of series scripts is Tomohiro Suzuki, who has worked on One-Punch Man and Boogiepop and Others. The music is composed by Evan Call, known for working on Violet Evergarden and Josee, The Tiger and the Fish. Credit for character design goes to Reiko Nagasawa of takt op. Destiny.
VIZ Media is publishing the original Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe in English and gave this description for the plot:
The adventure is over but life goes on for an elf mage just beginning to learn what living is all about. Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. But Frieren will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to understand what life means to the people around her? Decades after their victory, the funeral of one her friends confronts Frieren with her own near immortality. Frieren sets out to fulfill the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself beginning a new adventure…
