Vocalist IKE Leaves SPYAIR Due to Chronic Illness

spyair

IKE, vocalist of Japanese pop rock band SPYAIR, first discovered that he had ulcerative colitis—a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers on the large intestine’s inner lining—back in summer of 2019. He eventually recovered, but after unsuccessful treatment and a relapse in January of this year, the singer announced that he is leaving the group.

SPYAIR first formed in 2005, and anime fans should be plenty familiar with IKE’s voice. The band has performed songs for series like Bleach, Gintama, Haikyu!! and Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans over the years, creating many memorable themes in the process.

While concert dates planned for May and June have been cancelled, the remaining members of SPYAIR—UZ, MOMIKEN and KENTA—plan to keep the group going.
