Let this be a lesson to would-be merchandise bootleggers out there. Someone’s gonna notice those shifty-looking goods you have hanging around in your shop! That’s what happened to a pair of Akihabara, Tokyo shop managers, who were arrested this week for allegedly selling fake Love Live! Sunshine!! goods.
The reported goods in question were hoodies with a logo that apparently looked suspiciously similar to the one that belongs to in-anime and real-life idol group Aqours. Police seized the hoodies and are now looking into the means of production.
The pair who were arrested for the alleged copyright infringement included a 46-year-old man and a 55-year-old man, both residents of Koshigayashi, Saitama. In a comment on the incident, a representative of Love Live!! anime studio Sunrise said it was “regrettable that [the suspects’] actions deviated from normal fan activity.”
Crime doesn’t pay, especially when it results in your favorite anime producers shaking their heads in dismay at your actions.
