As Tokyo experts know, the city includes 23 wards, essentially semi-autonomous cities (think Shibuya Ward, Taito Ward, etc.). But starting January 2022, there will be 24th ward — in the world of anime, at least.
That’s thanks to a new original anime series from CloverWorks (The Promised Neverland) called Tokyo 24-ku, or Tokyo Twenty Fourth Ward. The series takes place in a fictional 24th ward of Tokyo, an artificial island on Tokyo Bay. It centers around three childhood friends from the ward, who reunite a year after the death of another of their friends. Their mission: protect the future of the ward.
The series will star Yuma Uchida as Ran Akagi, Kaito Ishikawa as Koki Suido, and Junya Enoki as Shuta Aoi. It’ll be directed by Naokatsu Tsuda, who helmed the first four seasons of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Other staff members include:
Scripts: Vio Shimokura (Nitroplus)
Original character designs: FiFS
Character designs for animation: Takahiro Kishida (Baccano!)
Music: Hideyuki Fukasawa (Flowers of Evil)
Tokyo Twenty Fourth Ward will hit screens in January.
