This Summer’s Anime Girls Are Also Huge Nerds

These anime girls are also big nerds.

As a rule, anime girls are great. But you know what would make them even better? If they were also huge nerds. And it just so happens that some of this summer’s anime heroines are just that!

From a top-tier cosplayer to a genre-savvy little sister to a fan of all things cinema, get to know the nerdy ladies of the summer season. Which one is your favorite?

Naori Jinguji

Naori Jinguji

In Love Is Indivisible by Twins, Jun Shirosaki finds himself crushed upon by two anime girls. Older sister Rumi is sporty on main, but a sweetheart deep down. Younger twin Naori shows girlish style, but deep down she’s a massive nerd. For anime, light novels, American films, Sherlock Holmes, you name it.

Thanks to influence from her Trekkie dad, Naori has a lot to talk about with Jun. But even with all their similarities, Jun isn’t sure that’s where his heart lies. Even so, we love all her references to Sharknado, Back to the Future, and all other things nerdy and weird.

Yuki Suou

Yuki Suou

Among the beloved anime girls of our time are the “little sisters”—either literally or in terms of personality. Yuki Suou of Alya Somtimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian seems to fill the “childhood friend” seat initially. But, as we learn quickly, she’s actually protagonist Masachika‘s literal little sister. And she’s very aware of how little sisters are viewed in media.

Yuki carries on a double life, pretending to be a model student at school and going full brainrot otaku behind closed doors. She’s a genre-savvy little sister and, while Masachika isn’t into her flirting, they’re on a wavelength when it comes to what fans like. But when he has to decide whether to support little sister Yuki or heroine Alya in the student council race, who will he choose?

Ririsa Amano

Ririsa Amano

In 2.5 Dimensional Seduction, Masamune Okumura is convinced that no 3D girl could ever measure up to his anime waifu Liliel. But then he meets Ririsa Amano, whose love for the ecchi heroine is a match for his own. Could this be a match for him, too?

Ririsa’s appreciation for Liliel, and the series in general, manifests as a dedication to embodying the character. This means matching every stitch, every pose, and even the lines spoken in forgotten manga chapters. As she moves into the world of cosplay, her love for all things Liliel becomes extremely apparent!
