Yūta Momiyama, the deputy editor-in-chief of Shonen Jump+, sent out a chain of tweets about how MANGA Plus is doing around the world. MANGA Plus is an app that allows people to read select titles from Shonen Jump.
Noting that there was a conference on MANGA Plus overseas, Momiyama said that sales continue to go up, and called out Kaiju No. 8 and Spy x Family for doing especially well. It used to be that a manga needed an anime adaptation to do well abroad, but that isn’t necessarily true anymore. And, he said, the really popular manga get about a million readers around the world.
According to a translation by Anime News Network, he also listed off which countries had the most MANGA Plus readers in September:
- USA
- Thailand
- Indonesia
- Mexico
- Philippines
- Spain
- Malaysia
- Brazil
- Peru
- Germany
- Italy
- Argentina
- Chile
- Colombia
- France
- India
- Canada
- UK
- Vietnam
- Singapore
Japan, China, and South Korea do not use MANGA Plus. Have you read your manga using this app?
