The Kept Man of the Princess Knight

An anime adaptation is officially on the way for Toru Shirogane’s The Kept Man of the Princess Knight light novels, known in Japan as Himekishi-sama no Himo. The main cast and staff were unveiled along with the announcement of the TV anime.

Mikako Komatsu is in the lead as Arwin alongside Junichi Suwabe as Matthew. You can see both in the visual below, followed by an announcement trailer that samples their voices.

The anime has Chihiro Kumano (A Couple of Cuckoos) on board as director, with Hisao Ishii (In Search of the Lost Future) adapting light novel illustrator Saki Mashima’s character designs and Deko Akao (Arakawa Under the Bridge) on scripts for the Blade production.

Yen Press publishes the original novels in English and sums up the story:

The Kept Man of the Princess Knight Plot

The Dungeon City is a wicked place filled with crime, debauchery, and death. Its one shining light is Arwin, the beautiful Crimson Princess Knight. She and her brave party of adventurers descend into the dungeon at the city’s center, seeking a legendary treasure with the power to rebuild the princess’s fallen kingdom. Many yearn to be by her side, but that spot is already taken by Matthew, a man despised by all in town as a cowardly weakling. Everyone thinks he is scum who just spends her hard-earned money on booze, women, and gambling. No one in the city—not even the princess knight— knows what Matthew is truly capable of.
