The Diary of Ochibi-san Posts 1st Episode, Shares Promotional Video

The second promotional video for The Diary of Ochibi-san anime has dropped. It’s all about future scenes spotlighting autumn and winter. The theme song “Romantic,” performed by folk singer Naotarō Moriyama, can be heard in the background.

On top of that, the very first episode of The Diary of Ochibi-san is available to watch on YouTube. This episode originally debuted on October 7, being played on the Japanese channel NHK.

The anime is being made at Studio Khara, with Daisuke Onizuka, who’s worked as a CGI director in the Evangelion franchise, and Shogo Tsurii, who’s worked as a CGI lead animator in the Evangelion franchise, both helming the project as directors. Credit for music composition goes to Satoru Kousaki of Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-.

The series is based on a manga by Moyoco Anno, who is the mangaka behind Sugar Sugar Rune, as well as the wife of Neon Genesis Evangelion creator and Studio Khara founder Hideaki Anno.

If you want to check out the original manga, it’s available digitally through Azuki. Azuki gave this description for the plot:

“Even if I can make you smile, I can’t erase the tears you’ve cried.” In Mametsubu-cho, a little town somewhere in Japan’s ancient capital of Kamakura, the cheerful Ochibi lives a free and easy life. Together with his friends — the dog Nazeni, the mischievous cat Jack, and the ever-hungry pooch Pankui — he welcomes the new discoveries and acquaintances that come with the changing seasons.

The spring brings flowers and greenery; the summer, chances to swim in the cool sea. With autumn come the fiery red maples, and winter brings hot and hearty meals.

These events and shifts of season are drawn with a soft and tender touch, bringing out the warmth in the details of everyday life.
