The Colors Within, the latest film from director Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird) will screen at the Busan International Film Festival, it was revealed yesterday.
The film will screen in the festival’s A Window on Asian Cinema section. It was also announced that Yamada will appear at the festival along with actor Sayu Suzukawa, who plays lead character Totsuko.
GKIDS, which picked up The Colors Within for distribution in the US this winter, released an English-subtitled trailer earlier this week. The film opened August 30 in Japan, and opened in seventh place in its opening weekend after earning 97.7 million yen.
The Busan International Film Festival takes place in Busan, South Korea from October 2 to 11. Anime-wise, Busan-goers can also look forward to seeing Japanese-French co-production Ghost Cat Anzu.
Here’s how GKIDS describes the film:
Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?
