The Colors Within is the new anime film from director Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice, The Heike Story) and animation studio Science SARU. The film is set to open in Japan on August 30, 2024, and to drum up even more enthusiasm the staff behind it shared a special dance video promo.
The new video debuted on the anime film’s official website. Clocking in at under a minute in length, the video contains exclusive footage of the three main characters dancing to insert song “Suikinchikamokudoten Amen.” Animation director and character designer Takashi Kojima served as key animator for the video, for which director Naoko Yamada provided storyboards. The choreography comes courtesy of dance group The Power Puff Boys.

In addition to Naoko Yamada directing and coming up with the original concept, The Colors Within (Kimi no Iro) features a script by Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, A Silent Voice) and music by Kensuke Ushio (Chainsaw Man).
Last month, The Colors Within won the best animation award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. GKIDS plans to distribute the feature in North America this winter, in both Japanese with English subtitles and dubbed in English.
Here’s how GKIDS describes it:
The Colors Within Synopsis
Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?
