Tezuka’s Jungle Emperor to Return as TV Special
This summer will mark a couple of major milestones for both the Fuji TV network and legendary god of manga, Osamu Tezuka. The 80th anniversary of the late creator’s birth and the 50th anniversary of Fuji TV are combining to resurrect Tezuka’s classic series, Jungle Emperor, more widely known in the United States as Kimba the White Lion (anyone remember those The Lying King shirts?).
With a script by Osamu Suzuki (SMAP X SMAP, Lovely Complex), the television special is set to air this summer in Japan. Suzuki’s script is said to be heavily inspired by Tezuka’s original story, which ran in Manga Shonen from 1950 to 1954, with an anime adaptation airing over a decade later.
