January 23, 2018 Sword Art Online fans in Japan will soon have a way to get closer to their favorite series. With the help of a special app, Tokyo Anime Tourism is giving fans the opportunity to explore Tokyo while interacting with Sword Art Online characters via augmented reality.
The special AR spots will be marked on a map within the app, and those who visit enough of these locations will get a chance to win related prizes. Some of the prizes include clear files, towels, and pinback buttons.
It all starts with a kickoff event in Bellesalle Akihabara, which will be host to special rare character encounters on January 28. After that, the AR event will be available until February 28.
Season 3 of the main Sword Art Online anime series will be arriving in October.
