SPIRITED AWAY: Live on Stage Coming to Blu-Ray and Digital

SPIRITED AWAY: Live on Stage is coming to Blu-ray and streaming services! The footage comes from Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre, and the Blu-ray will offer two discs so you can see both sets of casts playing the characters. The Blu-ray comes out on November 14. Specific streaming platforms are not listed, but we’re told that “all major digital platforms” will be offering it, and that the digital release will be October 24. Streaming platforms will also have both casts.

This move is brought to us by GKIDS, with Shout! Studios handling the distribution. If you’re eager to get a move on this, you can pre-order the Blu-ray on the GKIDS site or the Shout Factory site.

GKIDS gave this description for the play:

Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award®-winning* animated feature film comes to life in this first-ever stage adaptation full of dazzling sets, captivating musical numbers, and wondrous puppets of beloved characters. Adapted and directed by Tony Award® winner John Caird (Les Misérables), SPIRITED AWAY: Live on Stage features two unique casts and performances filmed during the show’s acclaimed 2022 run at Tokyo’s historic Imperial Theatre, featuring Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi as Chihiro.

There are two alternating casts. For the first cast, Chihiro is played by Kanna Hashimoto, Haku is played by Hiroki Miura, No Face is played by Tomohiko Tsujimoto, Chihiro’s Mother is played by Fu Hinami, Kamajî is played by Satoshi Hashimoto, and Yubaba and Zeniba are played by Mari Natsuki.

In the second cast, Chihiro is played by Mone Kamishiraishi, Haku is played by Kotaro Daigo, No Face is played by Koharu Sugawara, Chihiro’s Mother is played by Miyu Sakihi, Kamajî is played by Tomorowo Taguchi, and Yubaba and Zeniba are played by Romi Park.
