Son to Complete Osamu Tezuka’s Final Unfinished Work

Filmmaker Macoto Tezka (AKA Makoto Tezuka) has announced that he’ll be taking up the demanding task of finishing his father’s—the legendary Osamu Tezuka—final animated work, which has remained unfinished to this day. The God of Manga was only able to complete two of the film’s four segments, all of which are set to the movements of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, before passing away in 1989.

Legend of the Forest has seen the light of day in Japan (and internationally via film festivals) in its truncated form, as the first and fourth movements were shown in IMAX in 2003. These can also be obtained through the iTunes store here in the US. Tezka, however, is hoping to use his film experience (including but not limited to anime productions based on his father’s own Black Jack series) to see the film to completion.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as studio and staff details start popping up!
