Ranma 1/2 Creator Made Veterinary Clinic Sign That Has Fans Talking

Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ manga is getting another anime adaptation, and this news brought renewed interest to a sign Takahashi illustrated for the Inagaki Veterinary Clinic near Niigata City.

Niigata happens to be where she was born, and one of her childhood friends is now the owner who runs that clinic. When the owner talked about getting help with a sign, she created one that, besides being appropriate for a veterinary clinic, also references two of her works. For instance, look closely at the feline in the sign. It’s not just any cat — it shows the cat form of Shampoo, the Amazon and (one of) Ranma’s proposed fiancées from Ranma ½.

Now look more closely at the dog. It’s Soichiro-san from her manga Maison Ikkoku.

VIZ Media publishes the original Ranma ½ manga, and gave this description for it:

Ranma ½ Synopsis

Years ago, Genma promised his old friend Soun Tendo that Ranma would marry one of Soun’s three daughters and carry on the family’s martial arts school. Except that the girl picked to be Ranma’s bride doesn’t seem to like him, Ranma keeps getting into fights…and did we mention that whole changing into a girl thing?

VIZ Media also publishes Maison Ikkoku and gave this description for the first volume:

Maison Ikkoku Synopsis

From the beloved creator of Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2, the wacky romantic comedy Maison Ikkoku, in a new edition in its original episodic order! Travel into Japan’s nuttiest apartment house and meet its volatile inhabitants: Kyoko, the beautiful and mysterious new apartment manager; Yusaku, the exam-addled college student; Mrs. Ichinose, the drunken gossip; Kentaro, her bratty son; Akemi, the boozy bar hostess; and the mooching and peeping Mr. Yotsuya. Funny, touching, and a tad off-kilter, Maison Ikkoku is the great Rumiko Takahashi at her very best.
