Pro Mahjong Player, Former Nogizaka46 Member Kana Nakata to Perform Pon no Michi OP

pon no michi

Kana Nakata is currently a professional mahjong player, and she also used to be one of the members of girl group Nogizaka46. With that pedigree in mind—which includes running a mahjong-themed café in Tokyo’s Minata Ward and being part of the Professional Mahjong League—it’s only appropriate that she sing the opening theme song for mahjong anime Pon no Michi.

Pon no Michi‘s opening theme song is titled “Pon Popopon.” It marks Nakata’s first single since leaving Nogizaka46.

Featuring designs by Quintessential Quintuplets creator Negi Haruba, Pon no Michi is an original anime that was first revealed back in May 2023. Tatsuma Minamikawa is directing and handling the screenplay, with Kenji Ota on anime character designs, Emi Kadano on color design, Scott MacDonald as art director, Yoshiaki Kimura as editor, Goh Takahashi as sound director and Sachiko Takahashi, Takuma Sogi, hisakuni, Riko Ohashi, Kanji Eguchi and Shari on music. The anime is being produced at OLM and is currently planned for a January 2024 premiere.

The main cast includes Kaori Maeda as Nashiko Jippensha, Iori Saeki as Pai Kawahigashi, Shion Wakayama as Izumi Tokutomi and Yui Kondou as Riche Hayashi.
