The manga Atarashii Jōshi wa Do Tennen (translated as My New Boss Is Goofy) by Dan Ichikawa is receiving an anime adaptation. The manga has not been licensed in North America, but has been doing very well in Japan.
Here is the first trailer for the anime.
We also know a bit about the cast: Yuichiro Umehara plays Yūsei Shirosaki, Kōtarō Nishiyama plays Kentarō Momose, Tomokazu Sugita plays Mitsuo Aoyama, Jun Fukuyama plays Aigo Kinjō, and Hiro Shimono plays Hakutō.
The anime is being made at A-1 Pictures with Noriyuki Abe of Bleach and Ōoku: The Inner Chambers helming the project as director. The person in charge of series scripts is Masahiro Yokotani, who has previously worked on The Devil Is a Part-Timer!
Play It Cool, Guys composer Masato Nakayama is writing the music. The sound director is listed as Jin Aketagawa, and Takahiro Yasuda of Wolf Girl & Black Prince has been tasked with being both the chief animation director and the person in charge of character design.
The manga debuted when Ichikawa posted it on Twitter. In early 2019 it got picked up by the Manga Cross website. Then Akita Shoten, which owns Manga Cross, began publishing the series in book form.
The story is described as an office comedy. Kentarō Momose has switched to a new job after his last boss made his life hell, and discovers that his new boss is, well, goofy.
Back in 2019, shortly after its debut, My New Boss Is Goofy came in first in the Web Manga General Election. Then in 2020’s TSUTAYA Comic Grand Prize competition, the manga nabbed third place. That same year AnimeJapan put out a poll on what manga people most want to see turned into an anime, and it got second place that time around.
