It was revealed in September that the light novel series Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table (a.k.a. Shibō Yūgi de Meshi o Kuu in Japanese) is getting an anime adaptation. Now, a few months later, we have more information, including the fact that the show will premiere in January 2026. On top of this, the primary crew members were shared, and so was an image of Yuuki dressed as a maid.
Here’s the Yuuki image:
In terms of crew, Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table is being made at Studio DEEN, with Takehiro Ueno of Days With My Stepsister helming the project as director. The person handling series composition is Rintarou Ikeda, whose credits include The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon’s Judgement. Credit for character design goes to Eri Osada, who has worked on Blade & Soul. The task of sound direction is being done by Noriyoshi Konuma of The Dangers in My Heart.
Yen Press publishes the original light novels by Yūshi Ukai and Nekometal and gave this description for them:
Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table Plot
Yuuki wakes up to find herself wearing a maid’s uniform in a strange manor. After wandering into the dining room, she comes across five other girls, each in the exact same outfit. Soon, the girls learn that the manor is brimming with lethal weapons and an array of deadly traps…and that they can only escape by playing the most gruesome of games. As the terrifying truth sets in, each girl’s face goes pale—except Yuuki’s. Why? Because this isn’t her first go-round. That’s right—Yuuki is a professional death game player who lives off the prize money she collects from winning brutal killing competitions, and she’s not about to let this chance pass her by.
