Following up on some earlier previews, a date has officially been locked in for the Phantom of the Idol TV anime, which is based on the manga by Hijiki Isoflavone. The supernatural music will haunt the air when the series premieres on July 1, and you can see the latest in a new trailer and visual below.
The trailer previews the “Let’s ZING!” opening theme, as performed by in-series idol group ZINGS. They’ll also be handling the ending theme for the show.
New cast members, pictured below from left to right, include Takuma Terashima as Hikaru Setouchi, Takuya Sato as Chihiro Misaki, Tatsuki Kobayashi as Akira Uchihama, Haruki Ishiya as Yukinari Nada and Yohei Azakami as Homare Hakata.
Daisei Fukuoka is directing the anime, with Yasuko Aoki on series composition, Saori Hosoda on character designs and myu on music for the Studio Gokumi production.
Kodansha Comics publishes the original manga in English and describes it like so:
Yuya, one half of the boy pop duo ZINGS, may be the laziest performer in the Japanese music industry. His partner is out there giving 110% every night, but Yuya’s sloppy dancing and his frankly hostile attitude toward the audience has the fans hating him and his agent looking for any excuse to cut him loose. The career of a pop idol just isn’t the path of easy leisure Yuya expected…
After a particularly lifeless concert appearance, Yuya meets a girl backstage. All she wants from life is to perform. There’s just one problem: She’s been dead for a year.
