This past weekend kicked off with the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event, which delivered a bunch of new info on various Aniplex anime titles that are on the way. One of the updates concerned the upcoming new Urusei Yatsura anime, which will offer up an all-star adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s classic comedy manga this October. When it arrives outside of Japan, it will be available to stream on bilibili and HIDIVE.

Urusei Yatsura begins on October 13.

The new anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s classic Urusei Yatsura manga previously announced plans to air over four cours (units of typically 11-14 episodes that make up one seasonal broadcast), with the first two airing consecutively when the “all-star” anime begins this October.

The series is being directed by Hideya Takahashi (Keijo!!!!!!!!) and Yasuhiro Kimura (2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team), with Yuko Kakihara (The aquatope on white sand) on series composition and Naoyuki Asano (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) on character designs at david production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure).

The Urusei Yatsura manga ran from 1978 to 1987, and was adapted into a 195-episode TV anime that aired in Japan from 1981 to 1986. Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii helmed the first 106 episodes of the anime and the first two of six films that were produced. The series also had 12 OVAs released after the end of the TV anime.

VIZ Media publishes the manga in English and describes it:

In a high-stakes game of tag, Ataru must touch Lum’s horns in ten days—or aliens will take over the earth! The fact that Lum can fly doesn’t make Ataru’s job any easier. As it turns out, the game of tag is only the beginning of Ataru’s troubles, as he continues to attract strange encounters with otherworldly beings like beautiful snow spirit Oyuki and the sexy crow goblin Princess Kurama!
