Netflix India Pulls Record of Ragnarok After Shiva Controversy

Netflix India has pulled the anime Record of Ragnarok. Netflix has not stated why, but there has been controversy with the way the Hindu god Shiva is portrayed, so this is likely the reason.

Record of Ragnarok has characters based on ones found in multiple belief systems, including Biblical characters, multiple Hindu gods, and gods from ancient Greece.

There is a part of the Indian Penal Code that forbids “outraging the religious feelings of any class of [citizens of India]” with “deliberate and malicious intention.”

The anime is still available to watch on Netflix in other countries. It is based on a manga of the same name by Shinya Umemura, Ajichika, and Takumi Fukui.
