Production baobab shared the sad news that voice actor Eiji Yanagisawa has passed away. He died on November 12, at the age of 57, and the cause of death is listed as a brainstem hemorrhage. The National Library of Medicine explained:
Primary brainstem hemorrhage (PBSH) is the most fatal subtype of intracerebral hemorrhage and is invariably associated with poor prognosis. Several prognostic factors are involved, of which the two most predominant and consistent are the initial level of consciousness and hemorrhage size.
Some of his bigger anime roles include Danroku in Getter Robo: Armageddon, and Zapper Zaku and Gunbiker in SD Gundam Force. Yanagisawa primarily took on a number of smaller roles in well-known anime, including playing Genzo in Naruto, Worm the Trailmon in Digimon Frontier, Okabe-sensei in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Takayanagi in Genshiken. He also loaned his voice talents to Baki, The Big O, Case Closed, Doraemon, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, Orphen, Romeo X Juliet, Sakura Wars, Shuffle!, and Yozakura Quartet, to name a few.
The Crunchyroll Store gave this description for Getter Robo: Armageddon:
Getter Robo: Armageddon Plot
Not long ago, alien lifeforms appeared and swarmed across the Moon, threatening the Earth below. Humanity responded with overwhelming force, fielding an army of Super Robots powered by the recently discovered Getter Rays, and with it drove the Invaders to a bloody extinction. Then, tragedy struck when the Getter Team leader and pilot of Getter-1, Ryoma Nagare, killed Dr. Saotome, the pioneer of Getter technology. Ryoma stewed in prison, knowing only on thing: someone framed him.
And not only was Ryoma set up, but Dr. Saotome isn’t dead! Returning from the grave, Saotome has revenge on his mind, and has set in motion his plans to destroy the world…and the sudden return of the Invaders seems like no coincidence. Now Ryoma’s out of jail and back in Getter Robo, and though he wasn’t guilty the first time, this time he’s gonna make sure of it!
Yanagisawa’s talents were heard around the world.
