Miyuki Miyabe’s Mishimaya Hencho Hyaku Monogatari (Mishimaya’s Strange Ghost Stories) novel series is being adapted into a new format. Kadokawa’s Comic Bridge publication just launched the first chapter of a manga adaptation by Fukusuke Miyamoto with the first chapter now available to read in Japan.

The novel series first kicked off back in April 2012 and the eighth volume just launched in July 2022. Miyabe is also known for The Book of Heroes, which VIZ Media published in English along with sequel The Gate of Sorrows, as well as Brave Story, which made its way to the screen as an anime film from Gonzo in 2006.

Mishimaya Hencho Hyaku Monogatari centers on a girl named Ochika, who lives with her uncle and his wife and has closed off her heart following an incident at her parent’s house. The “strange ghost stories” refer to the mysterious stories of the people who visit the Mishiyama bag shop in Edo, and they begin to stir something within Ochika.
