Meet This Season’s Powered-Up Anime Couples

Taiyo and Mutsumi are just one of this season's powered-up anime couples!

We all love a good power couple. But when it comes to anime couples, “power” can mean a lot of things. Maybe it’s influence. Maybe it’s popularity. Or maybe they’re both possessed of supernatual abilities. You know, the usual anime stuff.

Today, let’s meet three of this anime season’s literal power couples. Some wield superhuman powers, while others are enjoying the (literal) fruits of their labor. Which of these adorable duos is your favorite?

Shouzou and Ine

Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again

The other anime couples on this list are literally throwing around supernatural powers. But Shouzou and Ine, the grandpa and grandma of Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again, have a slightly more passive power. After being together for more than half a century, the two apple farmers discover a golden apple on a tree they salvaged after a storm. It seems the tree was grateful for their care, because eating that apple has restored their youth!

The result is a sweet young couple with all the mannerisms of a pair of old lovebirds. But there’s more to their magical gift than that. Shouzou is stronger than ever, able to show up the youngsters at sports day. And Ine, whose health was always poor, now has a new lease on life. And we couldn’t be happier for them.

Zagan and Nephelia

An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride

An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride has a rather… odd start for the second of our anime couples. Zagan has no intention of buying anything at the auction he visits, much less a slave. But it’s love at first sight when he sees the elf Nephelia. She’s convinced she’s property at best, a sacrifice at worst. But he’s madly in love.

As it happens, both Zagan and Nephelia are wildly powerful magic users. But Nephy’s magic is currently restrained, and Zagan is just kind of a hot mess because of his crush. Readers of the source material know, though, that these two have a heck of a future ahead of them. If Zagan can ever learn to communicate.

Taiyo and Mutsumi

Mission: Yozakura Family

Based on the manga of the same name, Mission: Yozakura Family is about the inception of one of the most powerful anime couples we’ve ever seen. And that’s in large part because the Yozakura family themselves are crazy powerful. Each of the siblings has a unique ability thanks to their supercharged bloodline. And if Taiyo wants to stay by Mutsumi’s side, he’s gonna have to train up, too.

Readers of the manga already know just how far this pair will go, and how hard their enemies will work to tear them apart. Viewers of the anime, though, already know how far Mutsumi’s own big brother will go to do the same. Too bad for him—this romance is Blooming!

From anime couples we love to a manga couple we’ll miss—say farewell to Two on Ice.
