Live-Action One Piece Season 2 Production Underway, Actor Video Shared

live-action one piece

The second season of Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation has officially started its production! Netflix shared a video of actors Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar flying from their homes around the world to Capetown, South Africa, where they will film. The actors greet one another and hug on set.

Along with sharing this video, Netflix has been gradually releasing names of new actors for the second season. Here are the actors revealed so far: Callum Kerr plays Smoker, Julia Rehwald plays Tashigi, Rob Colletti plays Wapol, Ty Keogh plays Dalton, David Dastmalchian plays Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn plays Miss Valentine, Camrus Johnson plays Mr. 5, Daniel Lasker plays Mr. 9, Clive Russell plays Crocus, Werner Coetser plays Dorry, and Brendan Murray plays Brogy.

The new season is scheduled to debut sometime in 2025. While some live-action Hollywood adaptations of anime and manga haven’t done well, the One Piece adaptation, which has original creator Oda Eiichiro heavily involved, has been a big success.

Matt Owens continues to be a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner for the show. For the second season, Joe Tracz is taking on those roles alongside Owens.

VIZ Media publishes the original One Piece manga and gave this description for the first volume:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…
