Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese Talk Ghibli Films

Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese Talk Ghibli FilmsLongtime collaborators actor Leonardo DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese, who most recently teamed up for Killers of the Flower Moon, sat down for a chat about their favorite movies for the site Letterboxd—and some Ghibli films came up during the chat.

DiCaprio mentions that since Scorsese is a famous film fanatic, it’s usually the director recommending films to the actor and not the other way around. But DiCaprio did make an important contribution to Scorsese’s cinema-going: the actor recommended that Scorsese watch Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. Princess Mononoke comes up in the chat as well.

The fact that Letterboxd used the Ghibli/Miyazaki exchange right up top in the teaser really shows the continued popularity and power of those films in the public imagination.

According to a 2022 article, Princess Mononoke is one of DiCaprio’s favorite seven films, alongside such classics as and Bicycle Thieves. Nice.
