Kyary Pamyu Pamyu releases video for forthcoming single

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, the J-pop idol sometimes referred to as the “Japanese Lady Gaga” for her bizarre dress and music videos, has released a new music video in anticipation of her new song. The single, called “Fashion Monster,” is her first since March’s “Candy Candy.”

The video, released September 20th, continues in the vein that made Pamyu’s “Pon Pon Pon” an internet hit: namely, a confounding and wonderful mix of the bizarre, disturbing, and cute – and, of course, the infectiously happy Kyary herself.

The single itself, due to be released October 17th, is another syrupy-sweet pop track courtesy producer Yasukata Nakata, best known for his work with the J-pop supergroup Perfume as well as his electronic duo capsule.

The song is also being used to promote g.u., a low-cost clothing store from the owners of Uniqlo, which is currently expanding throughout Japan.
