KONOSUBA Anime Confirms Season 3, Megumin Spin-Off Adaptation

We knew to expect info on new KONOSUBA anime during a May 28 stream, but we ended up getting even more than we bargained for! Not only is the series officially getting a third season, complete with a teaser visual to go along with the announcement, but there’s also an anime on the way to adapt the Megumin spinoff.

The third season of the KONOSUBA anime will continue adapting the light novels by Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima. Takaomi Kanasaki is on board as series director and Yujiro Abe (Kaguya-sama: Love is War episode director) is directing, with Makoto Uezu on series composition and Koichi Kikuta on character designs for the studio Drive production.

In addition to the main season 3 announcement, an anime adaptation is also on the way for Natsume Akatsuki and Masahito Watari’s KONOSUBA: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! light novels, which are prequels centered on Megumin. The anime will have Rie Takahashi back as Megumin and Aki Toyosaki as Yunyun, with Yujiro Abe directing under the supervision of Takaomi Kanasaki.

Yen Press publishes the original spinoff novels and describes them:

My name is…

One year before a certain useless goddess and NEET extraordinaire hit the scene, Megumin, the “Greatest Genius of the Crimson Magic Clan,” is hard at work. Ever since a life-changing encounter in her youth, the young wizard has dedicated her every waking moment to the pursuit of the ultimate offensive magic, Explosion! (Well…every moment not spent hustling food from her self-proclaimed rival.) And while the big sister’s away, the little one will play. On a routine trip into the woods, Megumin’s little sister, Komekko, finds a strange black kitten. Little does she know that this cat plays a key role in unsealing a Dark God’s tomb…
