Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga is Amazing!) is the annual manga magazine-y award-y thingy that lists the best manga of the year. It’s due out tomorrow in Japan, but for now, it has revealed its number-one choices for the best men’s and women’s manga of 2024.
Leading the ladies’ list is Tamaki and Amane (Tamaki to Amane) by Fumi Yoshinaga. The manga, which ran from 2022 to 2023 for a total of six chapters, is an omnibus about the various forms love takes in eras from Edo-period Japan to the modern day.
Meanwhile, topping the men’s list is Spacewalking with You (Kimi to Uchu o Araku tame ni), the manga by Inuhiko Doronoda about a delinquent whose life changes after meeting an eccentric transfer student. The manga started in 2023 and is ongoing. Kodansha USA will release the first volume in English next year.
Gracing the cover of this year’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! is a fresh illustration from CLAMP of good ol’ Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura.
