Kingdom Live-Action Film Series Has 4th Entry in the Works

The third live-action Kingdom film adapting the manga by Yasuhisa Hara has proven to be a hit, so it should come as no surprise that a fourth is in the works. Production was confirmed for the next entry during a September 12 stage greeting at Tokyo’s Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills. Further details, including the official title and release date, have yet to be announced, but director Shinsuke Sato will return. 

In fact, according to the announcement, filming is already complete! The folks behind it are currently working on the post-production process. Look for a teaser to be showcased during screenings of the third film, Kingdom: Unmei no Honoo, starting on September 15. As of September 11, the third entry has pulled in a total of 5.13 billion yen (about US$34.86 million) with 3.58 million tickets sold.

The third live-action Kingdom film adapted the Battle of Bayou and Escape from Zhao arcs. All seven of the main cast members—including Kento Yamazaki (Li Xin), Ryo Yoshizawa (Ying Zheng), Kanna Hashimoto (He Liao Diao), Nana Seino (Qiang Lei), Hiroshi Tamaki (Changwen Jun), Koichi Sato (Lü Buwei) and Takao Osawa (Wang Qi )—returned for the latest outing. Shinsuke Sato was also back in the director’s chair with Tsutomu Kuroiwa returning to pen the script.
